Why we love Taupo Kayaking
These tours take you to some of the most picturesque places in Taupo, that are in inaccessible by foot. You’ll get to see some of Taupo’s most beautiful spots, as your guide takes you along the Waikato river or around Lake Taupo.
About this activity
You can do a tour of Lake Taupo, where you can swim in Australasia’s largest freshwater lake, jump off rocks into the crystal clear waters and discover Taupo’s famous Māori rock carving. It portrays the Māori navigator Ngatoroirangi who guided Māori tribes to Taupo thousands of years ago. It was the gift of master carver Matahi Whakataka-Brightwell to Taupo. The 10 metre tall carving overlooking the glistening, turquoise waters of Lake Taupo has since become a popular tourist attraction.
You may prefer to float down the Waikato River instead, exploring islands, nature reserves, discovering swimming spots and soaking in Natural Hot Pools along the way. Whatever you prefer, Taupo kayaking is a must do!
